2007 Application for Bands

We recognize the needs of band directors at the first contest of the season: top-notch adjudication, constructive comments, ideas you can use to refine your show, and a positive experience for students. With these thoughts in mind, we are committed to providing a contest that can help you set the tone for a successful season.

First-and-foremost, the “Silver Invitational” is committed to providing you with expert and experienced adjudicators. They are instructed to give a knowledgeable assessment of your band, using positive comments and constructive ideas you can use to refine your show. Last year, our outstanding judging panel drew high praise from many band directors. This year’s panel is currently being assembled, and will be posted shortly on our contest web page at www.wkhsband.org.

Our panel will use SCBDA-style sheets, following the SCBDA scoring system:

  • 40% Music Performance (two judges)
  • 30% Visual Execution (two judges)
  • 15% General Effect Music
  • 15% General Effect Music

In addition, single judges will evaluate Drum Major, Percussion, and Color Guard captions.

Quotes from past Silver Invitationals

“The White Knoll show was a wonderful experience for our program last year. It was extremely organized, the judges were outstanding in their evaluations and comments and the parents were very helpful in every respect. It was one of the highlights of our marching season in 2002. Thanks!"
-Phillip McIntyre,
  J.F. Byrnes HS

This was the most productive and useful set of tapes I have ever received in nineteen years of teaching. And the contest was very well organized; it ran like clockwork.”
-Ron Price, Pelion HS

“You had a very hospitable contest with wonderful judges. Even my youngest students understood most of the comments given. We appreciate all of the hard work your organization put forth to make it a stress free day.”
-Kenneth Capps,
  Emerald HS

“The contest was well-run and very fairly adjudicated, especially for an early-season show. Several of the adjudicators made design suggestions that helped us to be more suc-cessful throughout the season.”
-Dave Singletary,
  Swansea HS

“A great early-season contest.”
-Andrew Koch, Chapin HS
